The Niujie Mosque (simplified Chinese: 牛街礼拜寺; traditional Chinese: 牛街禮拜寺; pinyin: Niújiē lǐbàisì; Wade–Giles: Niu-chieh Li-pai-ssu "Oxen Street House of Worship" or Chinese: 牛街清真寺; pinyin: Niújiē Qīngzhēnsì; Wade–Giles: Niu-chieh Ch'ing-chen-ssu "Oxen Street Mosque") is the oldest mosque in Beijing, China. The Beijing Cow Street Mosque ( Niujie Mosque) is an ancient mosque that is thought to be among the oldest and most important mosques in China. A mosque there was first built in 996 AD, and now the mosque covers an area of about 6,000 square meters or 1.5 acres. Photo 2011.

At the Niujie Mosque. The Niujie Mosque is the oldest mosque in Beijing. It was originally built in 996 during the Liao Dynasty and was reconstructed and renovated in successive dynasties. Photo 2011.

Located at the northeast of Desheng Gate, the name of Dewai Mosque has a meaning of “outside Desheng Gate Mosque”. Covering a total area of 1,800 square meters, Dewai Mosque combines Chinese architecture with Arabic Islamic architectural style. It is a great example of Chinese traditional mosque. Photo 2011. Beijing Dewai Mosque, also known as the Beijing Fayuan Mosque or the Dewai Guanxiang Mosque, located on the northeast corner of Deshengmen Gate.  The Beijing Dewai Mosque was first built in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Photo 2011.
